I own a local real estate brokerage here in town, and for years I've been frustrated with the software available in my industry. My creativity and passion for how to structure and systematize my business went far beyond what the big SaaS tools could offer.
In December of 2025, I thought I'd finally found a solution in Base44 — advertised to let anyone build their own software. I immediately wanted to build a client portal for my sales clients. My process was a mixed bag of emailing docs and Excel sheets with an update at each stage of the sale, and I thought how much better it would be — for them and for me — if I entered each update once and it landed in a clean, interactive portal.
At the time Base44 couldn't quite do it, but I was hooked. I hired a Base44 developer and ended up paying $5,000 for an app that was basically useless — and I'd spent nearly as much time explaining my business to him through screenshots and voice-over videos. It was frustrating and expensive. But by the time he finished, I'd discovered Claude Code, pulled the project out of Base44, uploaded it to GitHub, and started editing it myself.
After I finished that first portal, I couldn't stop. One thing led to another, and the possibilities — from minor inconveniences to real problems — were endless. Six months later I own my business's entire infrastructure, and 95% of it is either automated or remote-controlled by command to my agent through Slack.
It's a freeing feeling to take small, burdensome tasks off your plate, or to improve parts of your business that simply weren't possible before. I want to share that feeling with my fellow local business owners.
